Dr. Rana  Abutaima

Assistant Professor of Pharmacology

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Dr. Rana  Abutaima is the biological research unit manager at PRC-ZU, and Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Zarqa University.

She earned her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the Jordan University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Abutaima’s research interests focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics, and drug–herb or drug–food interactions, with particular emphasis on how such interactions influence drug safety and therapeutic outcomes in special populations. Her work integrates in vitro, in vivo, and in silico methodologies to provide comprehensive insights into the mechanisms underlying pharmacokinetic variability.

In addition to her laboratory research, Dr. Abutaima has conducted several population-based studies exploring public knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to supplement use, energy drinks, and the off-label use of hypoglycemic drugs for weight management. She has also contributed to advancing the understanding of drug interactions during pregnancy and their clinical implications.

Dr. Abutaima has published multiple peer-reviewed papers in international journals and has actively participated in collaborative research addressing contemporary challenges in pharmacotherapy, precision medicine, and public health. At Zarqa University, she is also engaged in curriculum development and student mentorship, emphasizing the integration of quantitative pharmacokinetic modeling and evidence-based approaches in pharmacy education.

Her ongoing academic efforts aim to bridge the gap between preclinical research, clinical practice, and regulatory science, fostering innovation in drug development and the rational use of medicines.
